A Shaman is considered to be a doctor because
he is capable of treating certain diseases, spells and evils of
the forest. Like all doctors shamans are specialised.
Some treat people with "Ayahuasca" (forest liana vine).
They are called "Ayahuasquerros". Those who treat people
with "Toé" (leaves from the Toé trees) are
called "Toeteros". It isn't easy to become a shaman because
you need to be a man with a powerful spirit and be able to endure
strict diets while you are an apprentice.
The first test to become a shaman is spending one month alone in
the forest, feeding on fruits and roots produced by mother nature.
Then the apprentice goes home and is subjected to a very strict
diet. (No salt, no hot dishes, no fish, no garlic and no alcoholic
drinks for fifteen days).
After completing this diet he will go back into the forest for three
months, then for six months and finally for one year. During this
entire period the apprentice lives a life with a restrictive diet
and sexual abstinence. The next test he must pass is sitting on
a chair to check that he doesn't loose his balance. If he falls
then he didn't carry out correctly his apprenticeship and cannot
become a shaman. If he succeeds then he will receive the title of
doctor and wear a white garment. He will then be able to treat many
diseases such as depression, anxiety, epilepsy, arthritis and certain
cancers. The patient is monitored for one, two or three weeks and
is put on a strict diet

This shaman tour can only be done during a minimum
stay of 5 days. You will be able to learn about everything concerning
natural medicine and be able to experience the past, present and
future with your visions and thereby calm or heal some of your problems.
For people with certain diseases or serious health problems like
obesity, epilepsy, arthritis, kidney, liver or stomach problems,
etc. plan on a minimum stay of 10 days to follow the treatment and
diet written down and recommended by the shaman.
